While on holiday in the Norfolk Broads our German Pointer who had never been on a boat before took a running jump from the deck to what appeared to be green 'dry' land only to find it was floating leaves. The struggle that ensued with the panicking dog, drifting boat and a surprisingly long distance from the deck to the water made saving our heavy and slippery pooch incredibly difficult. Suddenly it was obvious that a dog needs a life jacket too. He was exhausted, as were we by the time he was on board again - it was very lucky that we saw him jump ! From then on he wore a Ruffwear float coat and loved hours of paddling alongside kids in the rowboat and trying very hard (and very unsuccessfully) to chase the ducks. Not only a worthwhile life saver but also fantastic fun for extended periods in the water with a strong handle to easily lift our sodden pooch back on deck.
