What's in a helmet ?

Unlike motorcycling its not a legal requirement in the UK to wear a helmet while climbing. However just as with motorcycling the risk of injury or death is substantially reduced by wearing one.

Climbing helmets are primarily to protect from falling debris, in other words things you have little or no control over !

Modern lightweight designs are less obtrusive and more funky than ever so no need to be in any way embarassed that you'd rather keep your brain in one piece.

Children should ALWAYS wear a helmet whether climbing indoors or outdoors - you are responsible for their health and their skulls are susceptable to damage even from apparently light knocks.
