Hydration No single factor is more important to your performance than adequate hydration. By the time you feel thirstly you are already dehydrated and performance is severely affected. The best advice is to drink often and maintain your moisture content and the simplest method to acheive this is a bladder with a tube to take regular sips from while on the move which the body finds easiest to absorb too. Carrying too much water can also affect your performance due to its weight. It is better to carry a smaller amount and refill from time to time if possible (check your map for water sources before starting out to plan ahead.) If you need to refill and no treated fresh water is available then use a filter or water treatment system that will make safe or remove and harmful substances and organisms that are found in ponds and streams. At the end of your day, clean and dry your tubing and bladder to prevent any buld up of 'nasties.' Sugary drinks are notorious for causing mould and should be avoided although some isotonic additives can be very helpful to maintain body salts if you sweat a lot.
